My name is Angel and with humility I am asking for your support in helping me pay my legal fees for a process that can help keep me in the country. As you all know, things have gotten much tighter and really scary for immigrants in recent months. I have been in the US since I was a toddler and I'm now facing a precarious situation with my status. I currently have DACA which allows me to live and work legally. However, under the current administration, my protection from deportation has gotten much weaker. Many DACA recipients have now been detained and face deportation even though they are here legally.

Luckily, I have an opportunity to strengthen my ability to remain by applying for another type of legal status called U-visa. I qualify for this because I was the victim of a serious crime last year, when I was hit and injured by an extremely intoxicated driver. I have spent the last year drowning in paperwork and legal fees. As you can imagine, dealing with my accident and fearing for my safety has placed a great deal of stress on me and my family.

This is why I am putting my pride aside and reaching out for mutual aide. I really do not like to ask for this kind of help. But it's a crucial moment for me to do everything I can to strengthen my legal status and shield myself from deportation.

Mi nombre es Ángel y con humildad estoy pidiendo su apoyo para ayudarme a pagar mis honorarios legales para un proceso que puede ayudarme a quedarme en el país. Como todos saben, las cosas se han vuelto mucho más difíciles y realmente aterradoras para los inmigrantes en los últimos meses. He estado en los Estados Unidos desde que era un niño y ahora me enfrento a una situación precaria con mi estatus. Actualmente tengo DACA, lo que me permite vivir y trabajar legalmente. Sin embargo, bajo la administración actual, mi protección contra la deportación se ha debilitado mucho. Muchos beneficiarios de DACA han sido detenidos y enfrentan la deportación, a pesar de que están aquí legalmente.

Afortunadamente, tengo la oportunidad de fortalecer mi capacidad para quedarme al solicitar otro tipo de estatus legal llamado visa U. Califico para esto porque fui víctima de un crimen grave el año pasado, cuando fui impactado y herido por un conductor extremadamente ebrio. He pasado el último año ahogado en papeleo y honorarios legales. Como pueden imaginar, lidiar con mi accidente y temer por mi seguridad ha puesto una gran carga de estrés en mí y en mi familia.

Por eso estoy dejando a un lado mi orgullo y buscando ayuda mutua. Realmente no me gusta pedir este tipo de ayuda. Pero es un momento crucial para mí para hacer todo lo posible por fortalecer mi estatus legal y protegerme de la deportación.
