Fundraiser for disabled community member
Donation protected
A woman with worsening chronic illness and disability has come to us seeking support. Having experienced ongoing financial hardship with a small support network, she has found herself in debt. She is unable to gather the funds needed to pay for necessary medical care and living expenses. The Disability Justice Network is coming together to raise funds for this community member.
After being knocked back from the DSP, she has had to resort to taking loans and relying on ‘buy now pay later’ services to fund living expenses, medication, groceries and medical bills. Whilst she is on her way to paying off these loans she has now been slapped with overdue car registration and car repairs that she has no capacity to pay for.
As disabled people we understand the necessity of a car, and the dire financial circumstances disabled people find themselves while only attempting to survive.
With no safety net of wealthy family and friends, living off of JobSeeker, a growing debt and resulting to selling belongings and taking loans to get by, our friend is struggling. And though DJN cannot front the total amount, we have stepped in to lend a hand in fundraising efforts for this disabled community member.
Mutual aid is built on community care and disabled love, it is how we survive as disabled people in a world built against us. When the healthcare system and the state continue to fail us, our community steps in! Please dig deep and share this fund so our community member can get the care she needs.
