Mutual Aid for DJ Arsene Versailles

Desire James (DJ) Arsene Versailles is a Covid-bereaved man in Boston, Massachusetts, who needs your financial and moral support, to get through 2023. I was a volunteer with DJ in the Marked By Covid organization and appreciate his willingness to share his story.

Since his mom, Florcie Yves Chavannes Versailles, died from Covid in May 2020, DJ has suffered many systemic challenges and personal setbacks, especially in the areas of health, housing, and finances.

He is working on avoiding eviction, getting a housing advocate, switching from long term disability to permanent disability, and more. He has a financial need of $7,220 to support past, present, and future personal situations, including dealing with rental arrears.

DJ worked with multiple organizations to cover some of the rental arrears, but still has more to cover. He is working with legal representation and has been having court dates to figure out the next steps with his current apartment.

DJ receives food stamps that always run out right away. It’s not enough for food to last the whole month. He ends up needing to buy more at the supermarket.

DJ had scams happen recently and also didn’t receive a recent disability benefits direct deposit (see updates for more info). He has a hearing for permanent Social Security disability benefits on November 21st. He’s been working on that for a little over two years.

DJ is currently looking for a new apartment in Boston. He has applied twice for RAFT and was denied, appealed twice and was denied, and now applied a third time for RAFT on November 9th.

Previously, DJ used up his savings and 401K. So, he needs some more financial support to help make it through the upcoming court dates, move (happening sometime between Nov. 22 and Dec. 15), as well as ongoing support with rent and food until he's settled again.
