Musselshell Steak Harlowton Montana
Donation protected
Hello we are Steve and Kim, Carey
We currently own Musselshell Steakhouse which closed in Martinsdale on May 27th, our initial plan was not to open another restaurant, but after great feedback from the community and a great opportunity with the location and beverage license, we felt Harlowton would be an option for us.
I have been in the restaurant business for about 40 years and have been the corporate Chef for large companies like Outback Steakhouse and Brinker International. I have started about 14 concepts from scratch over the past 30 years, including a concept with Paul Fleming founder of PF Chang's. We love Central Montana and we love our neighbors!!
Running a restaurant is hard work, the only thing that makes it worthwhile are the smiles on the faces of the guests. I have now talked Kim into doing the restaurant in Harlowton because I know the town and area need this option. The choices are limited and our families and neighbors need a place they can go to visit with their friends and family. They also need a place they can be proud of to show off to out of town visitors and family.
When we opened the location in Martinsdale we spent a good portion of our nest egg to get it opened and lost money over the 2 years while we were opened. The main reason for the loss was that food prices never stabilized after covid and propane stayed high through the Winter. Some months we would break even others we would put money into the business. We refused to pass those expenses on to our guests, we could have raised prices but to us, we are in this together. 95% of all of our guests were driving at least 25 miles. It was more important to Kim and me to have a great steakhouse with value high quality food and great service so we absorb the loss on Monthly bases
To open Musselshell Steakhouse in Harlowton we are going to need some financial support. We are buying the liquor license for $35,000 but there is work that needs to be done in the restaurant to meet the code in health, fire, and building. After buying the liquor license and paying the lawyers. We need about $65,000 to open Musselshell Steakhouse. This investment is a long-term investment into the community. My agreement with Mike and Susan is once I am ready to retire from cooking they will buy the business. Also,
my goal is to train someone to take over the cooking. The owners of the building will own the restaurant. These funds will include fire suppression systems, construction costs, bar equipment, lighting, oven, ice machine, and opening inventory My goal was to keep the entire project under $130,000 and it looks like we can accomplish this.
The reason we are trying to use crowdfunding is that we want everyone in the community to feel like they had a hand in getting the business opened. Something they could be proud of
