Music On Main Street's Next Phase

Donation protected
Since the day we opened Music On Main Street the thing we focus on most is passing the joy of music on to the children of today so that they, in turn, can pass it on to theirs. And we’ve had overwhelming success in many ways. We strive to maintain one-on-one relationships with our students and customers in a way that the big-box stores simply can’t. But being a small, independent music shop comes with its challenges. So we’re reaching out to our loyal customers, families, our family of friends and the surrounding community to ask for support in helping us make a good thing better. As we enter our 4th year we are looking to grow parts of our business that have shown so much promise, but quite simply, require working capital to strengthen and move forward. In addition, it’s time we upgrade some things. From the lawn and sound system so many of you enjoy during the outdoor concert series to our repair facilities and even our online and marketing presence. Here’s a quick look at where we’ve been and where we plan to go – with the help of supporters like you…

Lessons:
The heart of our business is individual instruction with some of the most talented teachers in Atlanta, who’ve changed the lives of hundreds upon hundreds of students, young and old, with the gift of music. Each year we’ve more than doubled the number of students taking lessons at MOMS and we continue to see strong growth as we enter our 4th year.

Summer Camp:
Through a partnership with the Fare Thee Well Foundation, we’ve established a summer music camp for kids unlike any other. This year’s camp sold out early and was a clear indication that it is a viable addition to our business. Most importantly, we’ve created a unique experience that campers and parents agree is nothing short of magical. With added support, the camp has more potential (to change lives – both young and old - and generate revenue) than any other aspect of our business.

Special Events:
To date we’ve had the pleasure of hosting dozens of beautiful weddings and other special events here on the property. As an event facility we are able to introduce people to the many facets of MOMS, and these events have proven to be a great source of high-margin revenue. We’ve done some limited advertising with the wedding and event industry and the potential for expansion is significant.

Outdoor Concert Series:
Our live concerts have become a trademark of our community - where families gather every week to celebrate music together, and deserving artists gain exposure to a captive audience away from the bar scene. Many of our shows now have over 200 in attendance and we hope to broaden our reach in the area.

Instrument Repairs
Our repair business has grown steadily as we build a reputation for quality, trustworthy work. We have attracted some of the most talented young repair technicians and luthiers around, and are looking to expand our repair facilities and capabilities going forward.

Retail Sales
Retail sales continue to improve even with our limited line of products. After three years we have a well-defined line of products that appeal to our students and their families. Our business model, thankfully, doesn’t include competing with the mega-retailers, but we still feel our unique product offering fits well with the area and the customers we attract.

Your funding support will help ensure that we reach our 2016 goals. Here’s how:

Continued/Expanded marketing efforts to grow our student and general customer base: We currently advertise in local direct mail publications which has worked well for attracting students and promoting our events. Larger ads, more frequent placement, and diversified local print advertising could contribute significantly to reaching our goals. Sites like theknot.com and weddingwire.com have been effective but have not been in the budget this season. We’d like to change that. Funding will also help with promotional videos, specialty items, search engine optimization and social media marketing.

Camp Expansion: While we partner with Fare Thee Well Foundation to facilitate our summer camp, it is held here at MOMS and the impact on our resources is significant. Since the camp has been so successful we are making plans to add up to two more camps next season. That requires additional advertising and promotion as well as human resources. In addition, we need equipment ranging from musical gear to tables and chairs.

Property Maintenance and Enhancements: Maintaining a structure built in the late 1800s, along with the surrounding two acres, requires considerable time and financial resources, but it’s the gardens and property that make the place so attractive to weddings and other special events. This year we lost a massive tree and several others need care. The grass we have is not suited to traffic and heat so we need to replace it with something hardier, and we'd like to install a sprinkler system using the active well. While it is not integral to our core business, the property is a great source of revenue in the summer months.

Equipment purchases: In addition to the concert series, we’ve expanded our services this year to include live sound production for city festivals and community gatherings. Expansion of that business will require some new equipment as well as continued maintenance of our existing gear.

Online Services: We see potential in offering a limited line of products online. We currently supply many musicians with their basic equipment needs including strings, cables, tuners, etc., but would also like to begin offering online lessons.

Original Content: Our students, staff and performers all provide MOMS with wonderful videos and recordings that we'd like to share with the world. We need funds for pre- and post-production, hosting and distribution of all this original content. The popular music machine can continue to crank out “less than desirable” content. We know – and see it first hand – there’s way better music out there. Help us take it to the world!

Thank you!
So many people already contribute to MOMS in so many ways. We’ve had a lot of help keeping the property looking good, great musicians have shared their incredible talent with us for far less than they usually get paid, wonderfully talented instructors drive here from all over Atlanta to teach a few lessons as we work to build their schedules. They, like many of our customers, call MOMS their own. They are what makes this place so much more than a business. They are MOMS. As we stand on the verge of the financial success needed to make sure

We want to ensure that MOMS is around for generations to come. Your kind donations will make sure our dream comes true.
