Support Needed for Family of Local Musician, Philanthropist, Mother and Friend

"Music can change the world because it can change people." - Bono

These words were the rallying cry for Mandy Maietta. Always smiling and always humble, this talented musician used her gift of song to support many local causes and charities. Bringing joy and happiness when there was a void came naturally to Mandy.

One of Mandy’s musical career highlights included being invited to record on the Holiday Lights CD (with a live Christmas performance at Pantages Theater), which features top local musicians and raises funds to support various philanthropies. Whether supporting St. Odilia’s Catholic Church, performing at friends’ weddings, or singing at events, such as the I’m For You and 35W Bridge Victim benefits, Mandy actively looked for opportunities to donate her time and talents.

Mandy’s career also led her to perform with many talented musicians across the state of Minnesota, including the bands Pop ROCKS and World According to Garth, as well as collaborations with her good friend, Tim Mahoney. Her performances extended into the world of professional sports, singing the national anthem for Minnesota Wild, Minnesota Twins, and several NASCAR events.

Philanthropy work through music was an integral part of Mandy’s life, however, it was her four children who were her greatest accomplishment. Dominic (22), Lauren (20), Dante (17), and Lilly (10) were Mandy’s pride and joy, which shone through in her voice and the words she used when talking about them. There is no doubt their mother’s influence helped shape them into the kind and caring people they are today.

“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” –Bob Marley

We wish the same could be said about life. Unfortunately, this amazing and selfless woman endured years of excruciating chronic pain as she battled numerous mysterious medical issues. Ever-dedicated to spreading happiness, Mandy managed to maintain a cheerful and vibrant disposition to the outside world, while experiencing pain both physically and emotionally debilitating. Neurological issues stripped Mandy of her career, but it couldn’t take her smile, her fighting spirit, or her love for her family. In her desperate search for answers and restored health, Mandy endured countless hospital stays, endless tests, and needle after needle. The following reflects a sampling of what Mandy underwent over the past few years:

·       Rushed to hospital by ambulance six times

·       Five trips to Mayo Clinic, including a week-long stay

·       Over 15 emergency room visits

·       Hospital stays at St. Joseph’s, University of Minnesota East Bank, University of Minnesota West Bank, United, St. John’s, St. Mary’s, and Mayo Clinic

·       Aggressive IV steroids, biopsies and a surgery

·       Appointments with 30 specialists, including the nation’s top neurologists

·       Total of seven full weeks of hospital stays within the first five months of 2020, with one being a consecutive five week stay

Even appointments at some of the world’s best hospitals and health care systems, including Mayo Clinic and University of Minnesota Fairview, proved to be no match for the perplexing and continuous health issues that overtook Mandy’s body. She most recently fought for her life alone in a hospital bed for five weeks, due to mandatory COVID-19 restrictions. Mandy told Bob the care she received from the staff at the U of M Fairview was simply amazing. The staff became her family when she couldn’t be with her own, and she truly could not have appreciated them more.

“Music is said to be the speech of angels.” –Thomas Carlyle

It is with broken hearts we share that late in the evening of May 30th and at the age of only 44, this beautiful mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend gained her angel wings. After a long five weeks apart, Mandy’s closest family members were able to take turns visiting at her bedside on her final day on earth. Mandy and Bob, their children, siblings (Michelle & Mark), and parents (Rudy & Sue Lenhardt) were grateful for the irreplaceable gift of being able to spend precious time together and share tender moments in the hours leading up to her passing. Surrounded by her four children and finally free of pain, Mandy made her ascent into heaven.

“Helping others is the way we help ourselves.” –Oprah Winfrey

Mandy’s family is heartbroken, but takes solace in knowing Mandy is no longer suffering in her earthly body. As they grapple with how to move forward without their beloved mother, daughter, sister and aunt, it’s clear they have a long and challenging emotional and financial road ahead. Between the countless hospital stays and crippling health impacts Mandy experienced, rendering her unable to work, the family is left in financial distress from an overwhelming mound of medical and other bills.

In our darkest moments, it is often the spirit of community that keeps us moving. Mandy recognized that from an early age and remained committed to ensuring hers was a life lived for others. She spent her days supporting wonderful causes and bringing smiles to many faces. Today, we ask our community to “do what Mandy would do.” Please consider honoring Mandy’s life dedicated to helping others by providing support to her amazing children, Dominic, Lauren, Dante and Lilly and their father, Bob. Your contribution will aid in lifting the financial burden currently weighing heavily on Bob and the kids shoulders, allowing them to focus on healing and finding ways to carry on Mandy's legacy. If you are not in a position to be able to donate financially at this time, sharing this site with others to spread the word is equally helpful and greatly appreciated.

From the bottom of their hearts, Mandy’s family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude for your love and support during this difficult time.
