Music, Dance, Rest, Repeat-----WE'RE MOVING IN !!!!!
After 3 years of getting settled into our mission and work within the communities of Guatemala, we have decided that it's time to take the wisdom gained from our partners on the ground and "move in!"
In 2019, we will be moving into our own space, one that will be more complementary to the efforts of our on-the-ground partners and better build on the fire for music and dance that has been ignited in our kids.

Our mission as Sonido del Movimiento is, with Christ, to use music and dance to provide tools of resiliency, emotional expression, and community building particularly with children of Central America. Our model up until now has been to collaborate with local organizations, musicians, and dancers currently in Guatemala. However, this work requires us to be flexible and to understand when we need to modify our program model in order to best fulfill our mission.

Building relationships is core to developing our programs in a Christ-like manner. Therefore, we will use this new space to create the consistency needed for relationship building among the kids and music/dance teachers. Moreover, we see creating this space as a way we can best help the kids can learn the skills necessary to facilitate their own music and dance activities based on fostering resilience in their own communities--beginning work towards a long-term goal of training these young artists to be trainers themselves :-)
We will be meeting with our local community partners in Guatemala to discuss how we can continue to provide their children with what we already know is an activity they love. However, with our own space, we can also open our doors to kids who have yet to find a place where they feel safe, cared for, and empowered.
To meet these goals, we have been taking classes from BuildaBridge International (www.buildabridge.org ), an organization dedicated to "engaging the transformative power of the arts to bring hope and healing to children, families, and communities in the contexts of crisis and poverty." With this guidance, our previous assessments of the communities, and our foundational experience, we have already begun creating a structure to best suit the needs of the kids we work with the most.

What difference does your donation make?
Music and dance give children a chance to express themselves and develop life skills outside a classroom. With this particular campaign, you will be contributing to the extra 2019 costs of approximately $5,000 towards renting our own space, paying the utilities, etc.
We can’t do this work without your support. Donate, share with your friends, and help us start out 2019 on a high note #musicdancerestrepeat!
