Musical Tribute for Cristof Acosta

Cristof Acosta-Farias was an outgoing West Hall High School student and band member. He had an amazing attitude and contagious energy that kept band members motivated throughout rehearsals. Everyone knew him to be someone who could crack jokes and get us all laughing. Cristof was someone who understood how to be vulnerable and learn from mistakes. He was a joy to be around. We plan to continue to honor Cristof by commissioning a piece in memory of him.

The composer who is writing this original piece is Salvador Alan Jacobo, a Mexican-American composer. Salvador was born in Portales, New Mexico on June 6th, 1997. He has created many other works as well as conducted for many different public high schools. Salvador is also a big fan of music jokes and indulges in creating some of his own. He has composed for several types of ensembles and we believe he is the perfect person for commissioning this piece.

Commissioning a piece involves hiring a composer to write music that is directly inspired by who Cristof was as a person. By commissioning a piece, not only the current band students but also band students for many generations to come can continue to honor who he was and the joy he brought to our program.
