INTERNATIONAL MUSIC EXPERIMENT: 'THE LAST CHAPTER'

Donation protected
Hiya!

As an independent artist, I'm raising funds to record a Dutch song ‘The Last Chapter’ as part of an album that I am working on now and which I want to release in 2025. This song will be recorded in New York in collaboration with my musical partner and friend Jason Belanger.

Recording this song is an experiment and interesting journey where musicians and the music director do not understand the Dutch language. I want to experience the musical process we go through when the musicians can not understand the lyrics and all participants of this production have to rely completely on me and what the music gives them. The song is melodic with around 5 musicians (including 2 violins, a cello, a viola and a French Horn). Something small and pure to sing as a perfect way to end my album (it will be the final song of my new album).

My name is PIEN (25, van Meegen, I am Dutch). After my master's at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, Scotland I moved to London to start my career. Last year I released my first projects as part of my musical journey and it is time for the next step in my musical career.

The last chapter
This song is the last song of the English language album. I deliberately chose a closing number in my native language, Dutch. I think it is important to always involve my Dutch roots in my work. The song is called 'The Last Chapter' and is about when everything is foggy and in transition. From an old to a new relationship, from the known to the unknown, and feeling what you need when you have completely lost yourself. Questions that are also addressed within the process of recording this song are: What do you do with one language in another country with people who do not speak your language?

International Creativity
I want to record the song in New York (City), together with Music Director Jason Belanger (who I worked with during our/my Masters at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) and English/American musicians.

The entire development and implementation process is recorded on video and I make a mini-documentary of this. This will be published later as part of the album release.

The funding will be used for the following expenses:
• Salary for the musicians for rehearsal and recording
• Rehearsal room (to rehearse for the recording)
• Recording studio (for the recording)
• Return flights from London to New York City
• Visa for me to enter the US
• Stay at a hotel in New York City
