PROJECTO JUDÁ Teupasenti is a project born in the heart of God, and initiated by Contra Costa Suzuki Strings: Music on a Mission .

The project aims to train generations of Christian leaders and musicians, starting with children from 4-13 years of age who live in a high level of poverty. This program will open doors, and provide new opportunities to change their lives.

Vision: To form a "A NEW GENERATION OF WOSHIPERS"
Goal: Provide Music Education for Children of Teupasenti.
 Values: Love, Holiness and Discipline

How it all began...
CCSS students played a private backyard concert for Miguel Giron, founder of Children’s Rescue Mission, during a visit in March 2013.  After one of the students’ moms spoke further to  Miguel, our journey to Teupasenti began with her simple words, “We need to go to Honduras!”  With that, Music on a Mission was born and the 15 months that followed were filled with fundraising, faithraising, organizing, practicing, and prayer—along with a bit of doubt, fear, and panic!

On June 28, 2014 our dream became a reality and 25 missionaries traveled to Honduras; 2 violin teachers, 11 students (age 9-19), 3 siblings, and 9 parents.  Our goal, dream, and mission was to spread the joy of music throughout Teupasenti, to donate violins and other instruments to CRM, and to provide basic music education, all with the larger dream of planting roots for a sustainable music program through CRM.  We are thrilled to report back that WE DID IT!

CCSS traveled with 24 violins, one cello, music stands, extra strings, shoulder pads, music books, 7 song flutes, 4 ukuleles, and 4 trumpets which were all left as donations to CRM.  For six days, music traveled joyfully throughout Teupasenti as we brought music to anyone and everyone, with visits to 2 or 3 schools or villages each day.  CCSS performed for all ages, from preschoolers to seniors, playing  concerts and doing  demonstrations in unique locations, including small rural villages, afterschool programs, public schools, along a stream, in the town square gazebo, in a private living room, and even in a small corner store!  For three mornings we provided early music education at the CRM kindergarten, teaching the children how to bow, hold a homemade cardboard violin, and clap rhythms.

Our other mission outreach consisted of:
* building a latrine for a needy senior

*distributed donations of playground equipment , toothbrushes/toothpaste, and school supplies to CRM afterschool programs

*prepared and distributed 75 food bags (rice, beans, corn, oil) for participants in the CRM senior program

*donated approximately 50 dress shirts to CRM pastors

*donated and distributed clothing to CRM youth

But that was just the beginning of our mission work and there is much more to be done!  CCSS successfully planted the seeds of a music program and out of them grew PROYECTO JUDA.   A wonderful Christian musician and violin teacher, Ms. Elida Figueroa, was located and interviewed the day before our arrival.  She joined us twice to share her violin and vocal talents and to learn more about our hope for the future of a music program at CRM.

In November 2014, preparations were made; supplies were ordered and a room in the CRM education center was prepared. From December 1-7, a music festival will mark the official beginning of Proyecto Juda.  During the months of December and January when Honduran schools are not in session, the music program will be nearly full-time.  After school resumes in February, each week Ms. Figueroa will make the two-hour drive from her residence in Teguciagalpa to Teupasenti where she will stay and teach for two days.  With her love, dedication, and ongoing financial support from CCSS, Proyecto Juda will be an ongoing and integral part of the services provided by CRM.  Elida is a gift from God and it is our prayer that CCSS will continue to financially support her as she lovingly carries out our mission to provide ALL children with access to music education and spread the love of music to ALL children.

Please support us in our new mission to raise $14K annually to support Proyecto Juda Teupasenti.  In the words of Ms. Figueroa,  "to plant in the Kingdom of Heaven is the best investment you can make."

“Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe!”  Psalm 150:4

Contra Costa Suzuki Strings (ccss) in partnership with Children's Rescue Mission (crm), will embark on a music mission adventure of a lifetime in the summer of 2014. Armed with faith, compassion, violins, and the musical teachings of the suzuki method, eleven violin students, ages 9-19, will travel to teupasenti, honduras in support of the work of children's rescue mission (crm). Under the leadership and direction of laurie carlson, 7 families will participate in this mission, for which the goals include (but are not limited to): securing and delivering donated violins to leave in teupasenti as the beginning of a music program at crm, teach daily music education classes and pre-violin activities in conjunction with the crm education center and afterschool programs, give "share the joy" concerts throughout teupasenti and surrounding rural villages in schools, churches, and the town square, and finally, work to locate and fund a violin/music teacher to begin and perpetuate a music program at crm. our goals are lofty and our group is small, but with your donations and assistance we will make positive difference in teupasenti, one violin at a time!
