My name is Katelyn Privett. I was born in a family that has shown and shared the love of music with me since infancy. With it built into my core, I decided to share that same love for music with others. I attend the University of South Dakota, majoring in Music Education to help me do just that, but I can't do it alone. After a rough season after another, my family can no longer assist me with paying for college anywhere between cosigning loans to even groceries. My family was never well off when it came to money, so it was hard being the first child to decide to go to college after graduating High School. My first year went alright even with my Dad being let go from his job during Quarantine. A few loans fixed me for my first year, but then my mom also lost her job earlier this year. Now, both of my parents and I work at a daycare warning what we can. It's not the best pay, but it's better than nothing at all. My family scrapes by month to month and have to choose which bills are less pressing to pay since we can't cover all of them like we used to. I wanted to start this fund to not just raise funds so that I can continue my education to become the teacher of my dreams, but also to relieve my family as soon as possible of some of the financial burdens I unintentionally placed on them as their daughter in their home and a college student.

I realize I can't just expect to receive donations without giving something in return. In a way, making the donations worth your while. I decided that for every donation over $20, I will record and send a cover of one song chosen by the donor, but these won't be just any covers. The donor chooses a style as well (examples: country, pop, opera, etc.). I hope this will make the fundraiser more fun and feel free to do the same if and when you share this fundraiser! I hope to hear all sorts of artists try their crack at sharing fun covers and their love of music in this process too!
