A musical gift for Anne

As many of you will my lovely mum Anne is now in hospice care in Edinburgh and we are trying to get our heads round what life is going to look like without her. It's a very difficult time that has unfolded over the last month. She is guiding us with her brave acceptance of the situation. We don't know how long we will have together but we are looking at a timescale of weeks.

 

Mum has talked a lot about her spirituality and how it is rooted in her appreciation of nature, animals, colour, the outdoors and music. We wanted to bring this alive and have something to give her, and also to give ourselves and her wider community to keep her spirit alive once she is gone.

 

We have asked two her favourite musicians, Chris Stout and Catriona Mckay , to compose and record a new traditional tune for her and in her memory. (https://www.catrionamckay.co.uk/strings/catriona--chris/) They are currently in Ireland and will be working on the piece there, inspired by the nature of the Irish west coast, the sea and the joy that mum is to us all.

 

We will be covering their recording costs and making a contribution to the time they will be investing in making this piece of work on such a short timescale. We wanted to let people have the opportunity to contribute to this gift and be part of celebrating mum.

UPDATE:  Thankyou all so much for your generosity! We now have totally covered the cost of the recording so I have chatted to mum and she would like to put the rest of the gift towards supporting the hospice so that others can benefit from the care they are providing her.
