Hello! My name is Stephanie Russo, and I am a senior at Royal High School in Simi Valley, California. I am currently working on completing the Ronald Reagan Diploma Seal - a program unique to my school with its partnership with the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. Along with completeing other requirements, I must also carry out a service project. I am raising money to purchase Itunes gift cards and iPods for the Music and Memory program at ONEgeneration Adult Daycare Center in Van Nuys, California. It has been proven that music positively impacts those suffering with Dementia and Alzheimer's. It improves their attitude tremendously, and brings joy when they are often overtaken by depression. I chose this project because my own grandmother, Mary, lived with Dementia for five years, but it wasn't until towards the end of her life that we started playing her favorite music regularly. I can still vividly remember her holding my hand, and us singing along to Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and Bobby Darin. Even after she forgot who I was, she never forgot song lyrics. When those songs came on, I got to see a smile so rare that it was contagious. Memory care patients are often thrown into nursing homes and forgotten about, and so I want to do my part in trying to fix that. ONEgeneration does an incredible job at providing music therapy at their adult daycare center, but is in need of iTunes gift cards in order to personalize the music of the iPods they do have. My goal is to use this money to purchase 50 $30 gift cards, and 20 iPods. If I could raise more than this that would be absolutely incredible,  but this will provide  many of the seniors with a happiness that they might not otherwise get. I am going to personally deliver the gift cards and iPods, and also put together a group of students to spend the day helping each recipient personalize their music. My project is due in April, so I would like to raise this money by the end of February.
