"To Allah, we belong and to Him we shall return". On October 29th our community lost a loving and caring soul Mustafa Khamis. Below will be a detailed description taken from a meet our neighbors series written by Chris Feely about our caring brother Mustafa.
"SEAN NOE REMEMBERS MUSTAFA
We lost a neighbor and a close friend yesterday. Possibly many of you knew him and he certainly meant a lot to us here at The Root Cellar so we invite you to mourn the loss of Mustafa Khamis with us and to pray for his family.
Mustafa was kind and gentle and genuinely interested in other human beings. He was an exceptional young man that engaged adults in ways that other young 20 somethings do not. He rarely complained even though he had battled Muscular Dystrophy from early childhood. His attitude and charm were infectious.
Mustafa was aware of his disability but wanted to be known not for what he couldn't do but what he could. Mustafa wanted to inspire others and he absolutely did that. Mustafa wanted to reach people and show them what he could do and therefore what they could do too. He was a good and true friend and was great at showing up and always ready for conversation.
I miss him a lot and I encourage all of us not to take for granted the people in our lives that may not be the loudest voice in the room but instead have one of the loudest impacts in our hearts.
We grieve the passing of Mustafa today but we thank God for blessing us with his life while we had him here and how God will continue to inspire through Mustafa's life going forward.
We thank you Chris for the amazing series about such an exceptional human being and we thank everyone else who was apart of this work. Our hearts are extremely heavy. As the family mourns and especially his mother auntie Hinda we are kindly asking for funds for the memorial and to continue Mustafa's mission of creating a safe space for those who are disabled and able as Mustafa quoted on his facebook page Muscle of hope "I created this page to inspire people no matter if they’re disabled or able. To enjoy life by living it to the fullest I know it can be really difficult at times to do so but there’s always hope for better days." Our goal is to continue to support this cause and raise awareness about Muscular Dystrophy.
