On Monday morning, a few members of the MUSC family were affected by a fire in West Ashley that destroyed several apartment buildings. Thankfully, no one was injured; however, two of our own students, Amer Toutonji and Mahdi Sleiman, lost their apartment and the majority of their belongings. As we all know, medical school is already a stressful time, as well as an expensive endeavor, creating financial strain for many of us. We want to come together as a student body to offer support and alleviate some of the burden that this unexpected event has caused in their lives. We hope to rally around them and encourage them in this difficult time. Any form of support would be welcomed and helpful, and donations are not required. No amount of money is too little to donate and those affected would greatly appreciate it. Funds are needed to help mitigate the costs of clothes, furniture, displacement costs, and any other belongings lost in the fire. Thank you in advance for your support and generosity.
