I am the Treasurer of Castle Roy Trust and we are fundraising for our Memorial for Murdo, Guardian of Castle Roy
If you've ever visited Castle Roy, chances are you met Murdo, the Highland Cow – our gentle giant, our furry friend, and the much-loved Guardian of the Castle for nearly 7 wonderful years.
Murdo wasn't just a cow – he was a local legend. With his sweeping horns, shaggy coat, and calm presence, he greeted thousands of visitors and brought smiles to faces young and old. He was part of the Castle Roy family, and when he passed away in November 2024, we knew we had to do something special to remember him.
The Memorial:
We now have a beautiful model of the young Murdo ready – it captures his spirit perfectly! Our next step is to varnish it and set it in place at the castle, where everyone can continue to "meet" Murdo and learn about his role as Castle Guardian.
We're aiming to raise at least £350 to cover the finishing and installation costs. Any extra funds will go toward maintaining the memorial and supporting the ongoing care of the castle grounds.
Be Part of Murdo’s Legacy:
So many of you have asked for a memorial – and this is your chance to be part of it. Whether you met Murdo once or visited him regularly, your donation (big or small!) will help keep his memory alive for future generations of castle-goers.
Thank you for helping us honour a very special soul.
With love and Highland cheer,
