Mural in Richmond Urban Heat Island Effect

Hi! My name is Sirena Pearl. I am a Painting & Printmaking major at VCU School of the Arts. I'm creating a mural using solar reflective paints to communicate the ramifications of urban heat islands with thermal infrared pictures. Funding is for the mural's production, maintenance, and eventual removal.

Cooling technologies and practices in urban cities remain vital for communities dealing with the human health impacts of the acceleration of anthropogenic climate change and urban heat islands. Another motivation for undertaking this mural is to add more public research for muralists in Richmond interested in painting with cooling techniques to avoid contributing to the heat island effect. My academic mentor, Roberto Jamora, and I have received $1500 through a VCUs undergraduate creative research fellowship.

We are looking for an additional funds to cover the extra costs of working large scale, specifically for scaffolding and paint. Where does this funding go to:

• Scaffolding Rental
• Solar Reflective Paints
• Spray Paints
• Wall Primer
