Muntok Red Cross Emergency Covid Relief

We are raising funds for vital Covid work by the Muntok Red Cross in Muntok and West Bangka Province, Indonesia. The Delta strain of Covid has produced a humanitarian crisis in Indonesia.  Please help us help the Muntok Red Cross with essential Covid education,  supply of masks, patient isolation, transport and treatment.  Our group, Friends of Bangka Island comprises members of the Australian Nurses' Memorial Centre,  the Muntok Nurses and Internees' Association and the Malayan Volunteers' Group.  Many of our own families suffered and died in Muntok during World War 2. The people of Muntok have welcomed us and helped to preserve our families' memories. Please help us now to help these people in return.

In 1942, 21 Australian Army Nurses, civilians and around 60 British servicemen were killed by Japanese soldiers on Radji Beach, Muntok. Many people drowned in the bombing of over 40 boats off Muntok and survivors were placed into harsh prison camps where many died.

We are aiming to help the Muntok Red Cross now in their vital Covid work to help save lives and as a living memorial to all former WW2 prisoners
