Valentine's Day tribute. The SS Vyner Brooke carrying Australian Army Nurses ordered away from Singapore, Allied servicemen en route to fight in Java and many civilian men, women and children was bombed and sunk in the Bangka Strait on February 14, 1942. Many other ships were sunk nearby with great loss of life. Friends of Bangka Island are purchasing defibrillators for use by the Muntok Red Cross on Bangka Island.
