Float Our Boat - MUN Sailing
The Pitch:
Help build MUN Sailing's fleet so that we can (1) provide the chance for Memorial's students to learn how to sail and (2) provide the necessary resources for our Race Team to become #1 in Canadian Inter-Collegiate Sailing.
The Goal:
We have set a fund-raising goal of $5000; these funds will go directly towards the purchase of Memorial University’s own 420 sailing dinghies. Should we exceed our fundraising goal, we will direct these funds to secure the purchase of more 420s.
Our Duty to the Donor:
For each level of funds raised here on GoFundMe, MUN Sailing will be required to complete a different challenge! Each challenge will be posted on our Facebook page, so be sure to like us!
After raising $1000, our President, Daniel Rees, will be required to kiss the scaliest, saltiest cod fish we can find.
After raising $2000, the MUN Sailing Board of Directors will have to take on the “Ice-Opti Challenge” (have you seen how much ice water an Opti can hold?).
After raising $3000, the MUN Sailing Board of Directors will dress up as pirates and carry out a normal day as students on campus.
After raising $4000, the MUN Sailing Board of Directors will be required to take a Polar Dip in the frigid Atlantic Ocean at Middle Cove Beach.
After reaching our goal of $5000, the MUN Sailing Board of Directors are going to pull our Academic Advisor, Mr. Mark Wareham, to the top of Signal Hill in a Laser. On a dolly. By hand.
Our Background:
Memorial University Sailing exists to bring the sport of sailing to the students of Memorial University and to broaden the spectrum of sailing culture within Newfoundland and Labrador. Since 2012, we have grown a dedicated sailing community, which includes top-tier coaches and experienced competitive sailors, as well as novice sailors honing their skills and abilities.
Our sailors emanate from all corners of Canada, and they each bring their own exceptional motivation and unique skills to our organization. Our members are dedicated to representing their university, province, and potential sponsors. Beyond all else, we strive to foster and enable this tenacity. We have represented Memorial University at regattas, locally and nationally, and intend to continue doing so for years to come. In 2015 we hope to represent Memorial University on an International level. To successfully offer sailing to all students, and to continue representing our university at regattas we need training boats, sails, safety equipment, quality coaching, and travel funding. Your donations will provide our team with these necessary resources. Ultimately, you can help give students limitless opportunity and unparalleled experiences.
We now turn to you, the greater sailing community, for your support. We ask for your kind contribution in helping us build our sailing programs. Whether you are a parent, friend, sympathetic sailor, or if you simply see the value in time spent at sea: we ask for contributions, of any size, in helping us share the sport of sailing.
Newfoundland was born by those who ventured across open seas. For the students of our province’s university, whether they search for new horizons within, or beyond, themselves we believe MUN Sailing can provide that opportunity.
