Mungai Foundation

This past January I got the most amazing opportunity to travel to  Kenya for service learning with the Caroline Wambui Mungai school. The staff and students welcomed me and my peers with open hearts; teaching us about Kenyan culture while allowing us to teach and work with students from pre-k to eighth grade. The entire experience proved to me that effective teaching does not require state-of-the art technology but compassion, creativity, motivation and a little bit a fun. Despite the immense thank yous and hugs that were shared on the last day, I still could not thank them enough. Just to begin to show my appreciation for this experience, I want to raise enough money to help refurnish the classrooms.
I would like you to imagine your childhood classrooms. Can you remember the cute, colorful posters for all the different seasons? Or maybe the carpet your teacher would have everyone sit on during reading time? Can you remember all the different books you could search through for personal reading? Or perhaps all the different supplies you kept hidden in your desk? Oh, and don't forget about your cubbies! Now, I would like you to imagine a classroom without all these extra things. Where your desks are in poor condition or when sometimes you’d have to share a seat. Learning and teaching is not and should not be glamorous; however, when your surroundings are better supported, your potential becomes endless. 

If you do decide to help contribute you will be a part of something bigger than yourself. Life becomes more enjoyable when we can share and help others.
