About Us:
We've gone by many names over the past 5 years, starting off as Thick As Thieves, then Hair Flip Comix, but after a long hiatus, we are now Mundane Fantasy Comix! Mundane Fantasy is a Seattle-based biannual publication that features narrative, poetry and art comix. Bored of the PNW boys club comix scene, we prioritize BIPOC and womxn artists to highlight important and valuable perspectives as well as celebrate the creativity of our community. We offer artist features, limited edition prints, and short-run merchandise featuring both emerging and established local artists. Mundane Fantasy is a risograph zine printed locally by ANEMONE . Straying from the traditional newspaper format, we seek to create something lasting that can withstand everyday wear-and-tear, and live among other zines on a bookshelf or coffee table.
About Mundane Fantasy Issue 01:
Theme: We are going with our namesake for our Issue 01 theme; comix will include all kinds of mundane fantasies! We will make an announcement about artists featured in issue 01 in March!
Zine Details: Issue 01 will be a 32-page, staple-bound 5.5'' x 8.5'' booklet with a cardstock cover. The inside pages will be printed in a single color, and the cover will be two-color. Our single color for issue one will be a beautiful cornflower blue! The second cover color is a surprise!
Artist Compensation: We've based our model on paying comix artists! All artists get paid for their contribution, not just cover artists. For our first issue, we will pay our cover artist $30 per cover, and our interior cartoonists will be paid $25 per page.

Why We Need Your Help:
We have loved existing as a free publication, but with the challenges of Covid19, it is no longer sustainable for us to remain free. Before the pandemic, we were primarily funded through in-person events like shows, parties, and small press festivals like Short Run. We tried our hand at a digital release of Issue 03 of Hair Flip in April of 2020, but we want to get back to just focusing on the comix. Self publishing has become more challenging than ever, and we need your help to get Issue 01 off the ground!
Breakdown of Project Costs:
-Artist compensation $810
-Printing costs: $550 (limited run of 100 copies)
-Shipping, materials & labor: $250
-20 copies gifted to featured comix artists ($200 value)
-Web transaction fees
Total: $1850
If you help us surpass the goal of this fundraiser, additional funds will go towards printing Issue 02 of Mundane Fantasy in winter of 2021, making new merch, and paying artists extra!
