Munch Receive Eyelid Reconstruction Surgery

Donation protected
About 5 weeks ago Munch was found in the backyard of our college apartment abandoned by the rest of the litter. My roommate and I felt so horrible knowing he was obviously the weakest link and insisted on helping him out. We wanted to clean him up and at the least bring him to a safe shelter. However, at this point, no shelters were taking any more animals. Therefore we decided the best approach was to bring him to the vet to get checked out. At the first visit, he was too tiny to receive any shots or flea medicine but was able to be treated for an eye infection. As the infection subsided and our emotional attachment grew, it was clear something about his eyes was wrong. It seemed as if he always wanted to squint or was wincing. About 3 weeks after the initial appointment he doubled in weight and was able to start the shots process. However, under examination, the vet noticed that Munch was born with a congenital defect called Eyelid Agenesis. During development, Munch never completely grew eyelids which is causing his eyes to fold in. His eyelashes and fur are constantly rubbing against his eyes which is incredibly painful for him and is beginning to scar his cornea. If left untreated Munch will slowly and painfully go blind. Due to how rare this condition is, there are only a number of veterinary ophthalmologists who are able to perform this surgery. The cost of surgery and consultations will be well over $3,000 which is super hard for a busy college student to put out of pocket. It seems as if the only feasible option is to give him up for adoption. However, the thought of him being potentially euthanized because of the expenses required to fix him up breaks my heart. All I'm asking is for you guys to donate whatever is within your means. To be able to give this kitten the surgery he needs is all I can hope for. And if you aren't in a position to contribute please share this!!
