I spent 6 days in the hospital starting on the night of January 20 after suffering an occular stroke. Although the doctors did the best they could, I was unable to walk away without any damage.
Total vision loss (blindness) on the left eye, impaired vision on the right eye, weakness on the left arm and nerve damage below the knees.
As a photographer, this is a life and career changing situation. I have a long road to recovery ahead of me while facing daily physical and psylchological challenges.
Prior to the stroke, I've been working on plans to cover the CrossFit Games Open both in NorCal and SoCal, the upcoming GRID Leage West Coast Pro Day and the LA Reign season.
I considered abandoning these plans due to my injuries, but after covering a local all-women event, there is no doubt I can still get the job done even with half an eye.
Part of the recovery process is to continually do what it is you love to do as it promotes healing, and I would love to continue to do what I have done the past 2 years, cover the best fitness and share my work with my fellow enthusiasts and athletes.
With majority of my finances devoted to eye surgeries, physical therapy, medication and keeping up with doctor appointments, I will need your help to pursue my passion project.
Asking for money to cover my travel expenses is the most difficult part of this project but a necessity as I cannot afford to do it on my own.
It is my goal to look back at the end of the year and proudly say that despite the life challenges thrown my way, the community came together to make sure I didn't skip a beat.
