Future Hope is a place of Hope, and believes in giving the children of Vipingo, a small, marginalised village North of Mombasa a Future!
Founded in 2009 by Peter and Carol Hardman, starting with one room, it has grown and grown. Today, it sits in its own acre of well-kept grounds and brings to life education in its entirety. Fun, imaginative teaching, with excellent resources, the 164 children, 19 of whom are HIV positive, and the others have been impacted with either one or both parents dying of HIV/AIDS or who are destitute, thrive in this caring environment. Future Hope School achieves excellent results, not only in the academic world but in sport and in creative work. The school may be physically small in size, but we pack a lot in with two kindergarten classes for kids age 4 & 5 through to the end of their primary schooling when they turn 14, in 8 classrooms. We then sponsor our students into 4 years of secondary school.
Turning out 360 meals a day our kitchen is a busy place, and the dining room extends into the outside seating area. We have a sickbay, a toilet block complete with running water, a novelty for many, an IT lab with 8 computers, a wonderful Adventure Playground, and a well-stocked library.
Football is their great passion and although our pitch is not full size there are always some kids kicking a ball somewhere! The girls play as well, and we support the senior teams the Silver Bullets and the Silver Starlets who have achieved great success and are moving up through the Leagues. We also have a vibrant sewing cooperative that creates beautiful gifts out of the local Kikoy & Kanga material which keeps their families off the breadline.
But we need your help. Providing everything from three meals a day, to uniforms, to an excellent learning environment for the students, we exist purely through the generosity of others, and it costs…a lot! So, we are delighted to have been asked to team up with The Mamma Identity (Mumble Forum) & AllBright to celebrate women and girls everywhere and to show these children at Future Hope, that they have choices. ONLY education can do this. Please help us make these lucky few the warriors of the future who know that they have the means to choose their own path and be mistresses of their own destiny.
Join us on June 25th at the AllBright at 9.30 for a lively discussion with a panel of great young women, focussing on how we can empower women seeking to excel in their careers, raise a family and make a difference; they literally keep all the balls in the air and the cogs turning! Not only in the family but throughout society, never more so than in Africa, a male-dominated continent, where women must work twice as hard to be recognised, do most of the domestic work unaided, and then go and tend the fields. We know educated women are far more likely to give back to their community as she empowers herself and encourages her children, especially girls, to stay in education….the only way out of poverty!
Please support us in our valuable work so we can continue to support these vulnerable children, who would be on the scrap heap of life if it wasn’t for Future Hope and the Vipingo Village Fund. www.vipingovillagefund.org
