Mum of dependent children, diagnosed with cancer

Donation protected
I’m writing this on behalf of my sister who has recently been diagnosed with cancer.

My sister is only 27, she has had a lump on the side of her face for a few years which she had just ignored, she ignored it as she didn’t think it would be anything serious. The pain was very bad but became unbearable when she had her second child (Kayden), 11 months ago.

After many years of nagging her to go to the hospital ; she finally went to and went through with all the relevant scans and tests. Only to find out that the lump was cancerous and she will need surgery.

She has been told to mentally prepare herself that her face will be disfigured after the surgery and it will never be the same again. The consultants have told her that the lump is located very close to all her nerves and is going to be a major surgery and of course will mean there is a lot of risk involved.

My sister has two young children called Ayaana and Kayden. Ayaana is 3 years old and Kayden is 11 months old. They are completely dependent on my sister in terms of day to day care.

My sister is unable to work as she is Ayaana’s sole carer as Ayaana has a very rare condition called VACTRL; which affects all her organs, her growth and her movement as she is also attached to a pump for 16 hours a day which she is fed milk through.

My brother-in law is also unable to work as he has had to quit to look after the children alone while my sister has the surgery and radiotherapy.

My sister went for a 12 hour surgery, in the surgery they managed to successfully remove the tumour on the side of her face. The surgeons had to remove skin from her arm in order to cover up where they went in for the tumour. I imagine it being a lot of skin as they also took some skin from her stomach and put it in her arm. She has now lost hearing in one ear and will have to wear a hearing aid for life as she is really struggling to hear.

When my sister comes out from hospital, she has to shield again and will soon have to go for 6 weeks intensive radiotherapy.

It is really heartbreaking to see that such a energetic and active person can go from that to being immobile and dependent on others as she has never been dependent on anyone ever.

We’re sure that she will still try to do everything by herself and look after her children but she will physically be unable to do so.

As you can imagine, this will take a massive toll on them financially.

I understand that times are pressing and that many of us are experiencing financial difficulties but we would appreciate anything you can donate. If you are unable to donate, I would appreciate it if you could please share and spread the message.

This money will support them in terms of getting the rent paid and giving her a piece of mind when she leaves hospital.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
