Mum being let down by many....

Sadly mum passed away in her sleep, on Thursday 19th September 2024.
She would have been so happy and grateful for everyone's donations.

Hi me, my brother and sister are doing this GoFundMe Page on behalf of our mum before she passes away as a result of her being ignored and failed by the NHS.

Our mum had gallstones for years, last year our mum lost a lot of weight quiet rapidly. She kept going to the GP, but they kept saying she was still overweight (bmi too high). By Febuary/March this year, our mums stomach was just growing and growing. It got massive! She had no answers from the GP. She would go to the gp regularly (when she could get an appointment), and they wouldn't do much to investigate it. They just dismissed it.
Mum also mentioned that her gallbladder would hurt her at times, causing her pain and discomfort. Again, the GP didn't care as she had gallstones for many years and was told the stone would break themselves down.

When mum last went A&E as her stomach was getting so BIG, she couldn't really move properly as she had fluid building up in her stomach. They did all different types of blood test and scans, and they couldn't find anything wrong. We kept telling the doctors that it could be the gallbladder, and they kept looking at us as if we were stupid. When they did decide to check the gallbladder, there was evidence that was the causing of all the problem all along. It's now resulted in our mum having stage 4 cancer of the gallbladder and has spread to the stomach lining, which caused her stomach to fill up with fluid and cancer cells.

Mum was due to start chemotherapy once they drained the fluid out of her stomach. The first time, they drained 10 litres of fluid in 6hrs. 4 days later, the fluid filled up again, and they drained another 8 litres of fluid. Another 4 days pass, and she had 5 litres of fluid build up again.
When she was due to start chemotherapy, the consultant told mum she was too weak for chemotherapy by this stage, as she wasn't eating anything and barely drinking any liquids.

The consultant told us it's a waiting game now and the stage mum is at, is end of life and when she's ready, she will go.

Our mum told us before she was in a bad state and able to talk that she didn't want flowers for her funeral but to raise money for a charity. Mum picked the North London Hospice as they helped her feel comfortable at home and helped provide equipment for her as quickly as possible, no questions asked.

We are not asking for a big donation. Even a small amount will help someone else in the same situation as our mum. Someone who would need a hospital bed, chair, high table and many more essentials to help them feel comfortable and at ease in their own home and not having to be stuck in hospital because they don't have the right equipment.

In honour of my mum Kyriakoulla Pantazis, many knew my mum as Koulla. We want to say thank you for your donations.

Hospice: North London Hospice is a registered charity (Reg. No. 285300) that has ben caring for local people with potentially life-limiting illness who have specialist needs since 1984.
