If you are reading this, I want to thank you in advance for your time and consideration to support this special rescue kitten, Mulan.
My mom and I recently decided to help a colony of feral cats that live behind her house. That meant trapping, neutering or spaying and releasing (TNR) them. What we didn't know when we started down this path is that we would rescue a very special little girl named Mulan.
When we first saw Mulan outside, we could see that there was something different about her. Mulan was born with a congenital defect called bilateral eyelid agenesis, which basically means that she doesn't have upper eyelids to blink and lubricate her eyes, which leads to constant eye infections and the inability to see properly. At some point during her kittenhood, she also sustained trauma to her left eye which resulted in permanent blindness in that eye. However, there is hope for this sweet and brave girl to regain her eyesight!
I have taken her to see a specialist (veterinary ophthalmologist) who determined that Mulan is a candidate for surgery on both eyes - first, to remove her left eye in order to avoid further complications, and then to construct an upper eyelid on her right eye with the aim of alleviating the inflammation and avoiding constant infection in the eye.
The vet said that it is truly a miracle that she is alive today, which is why we named her Mulan...
When we first rescued her, we thought she was a boy. We originally called her Camote which means "Sweet Potato" in Spanish. When we found out that she was a girl, we renamed her Mulan, not only because of the Disney story of a girl disguising herself as a boy in order to fight for her country’s honor and protect her family, but because she is a warrior!
She is only 10 weeks old and has already overcome so much adversity. She was born outside in a cat colony without any veterinary care where she endured a lot of risks. She is vision-impaired and somehow survived a feral life avoiding predators and the scorching Georgia summer. She is a survivor and has inspired me to keep pushing forward, despite all the instability and uncertainty that this year has caused. She is so happy, loving and playful, despite having all the cards stacked against her. It may sound cheesy, but she is a light for me in an otherwise dark year.
I know that 2020 has been tough financially for so many, but I am hoping that there are some kind hearts reading this right now, who are willing to help donate in support of Mulan, her eye surgeries, spaying procedure, and many vet bills. The surgeries are scheduled for October, and any donation would mean the world to me and my special rescue.
Please help me give Mulan the life she deserves so that she may thrive and remain the little warrior she is!
♫ Let's get down to business to support Mulan! ♫
Thank you so much for your consideration.
Sincerely,

Melissa & Mulan
