Hi, my name is Fernanda Jurado, I'm a film student at California Institute of the Arts. I'm also the writer and director of Mujer, mar y Muerte which is my Thesis, a 30 minute film that centers around Nerea, a young woman who starts to develop a connection with her deceased mother on the eve of her 25th birthday. She will learn more about the woman she never met through a sequence of events that blurring between reality / fantasy and develop a connection with her mother's "spirit”. This new relationship will allow her to become the woman she wants (needs) to be. At the same time, some premonitions of her future will prepare the main character to interrupt the cycle and forge a path for herself, breaking away from the pattern of generational trauma.
The main theme of "detaching doesn't mean denying" is relevant to current generations of individuals also breaking away from traditional expectation, reimagining of traditional folklore in order to address contemporary issues concerning feminine agency / motherhood.
With this, I will love to invite you all to consider donating to production of this project. All the funds will allow the film to become a beautiful piece of art. I really appreciate all the possible help, even the smallest amount is extremely helpful for us. Supporting this film will help to create a space where people feel supported to create art in an environment where creativity is inspired by portraying loved experiences.
Thank you, with love.
-Fernanda
