Hello!

If you don't know us, we're Abby and Mariana, a couple that just finished our big move closer to home in Maine.

If you do know us, you know we have three pets- our dog Kaley, and our cats Muffin and Lila.

Unfortunately this morning, Mariana discovered that Muffin had fallen between some stacks boxes overnight, and was stuck upside-down. When she was freed, she had a lot of difficulty walking and straight up could not use her hind legs.

We rushed her to the emergency vet, where they confirmed Muffin had dislocated her back right leg. The vet said he could reduce it into place, however he said that would be a temporary fix and due to the way cats' joints are, it would very likely slide out again

He recommended surgery to put the leg back in place, at that would give us the greatest chance for our little parkour-loving, climbing queen to be back to normal eventually.

We have called our vet and will be reaching out in the morning to schedule her procedure. For now, she's drugged to high heaven just to make her comfortable, and confined to the dog crate with as many comfy things as we could find.

Luckily, Muffin is in great shape, with no arthritis or joint issues, and it looks like nothing has broken. It shouldn't be a hard procedure and her prognosis is good.

Unluckily, this will likely run us a few thousand dollars. (You know it's rough when they say "amputation is technically cheaper...").

We usually have something of a cushion and network for if things happen, but the emergency vet visit alone maxed out most of our Care Credit, and having just finished moving last week, our funds are completely drained.

We're hoping to raise money to, at the very least, offset the Care Credit bill and be able to pay for the surgery in full (as the vet requires.) We'll have better idea of the full surgery cost tomorrow, but research tells us it'll be around $2,000.

We know the world is on fire and funds are tight all over right now, but any support folks want to offer will be greatly appreciated. Muffin is my baby, a shy, sweet cat who loves to be up high so she can see what's going on, or cuddled as closely as she can be to me at night. Anyone who has been lucky enough to meet her knows she's a sweetie, and we want to make sure she gets whatever care she needs.
