Mudslide Relief for Jason & Jennifer Lance
On Thursday, July 22nd a mudslide in Avon damaged our home in the Sonnen Halde complex on Nottingham Road. Mud and water from the hillside above our complex came rushing under our front door and inundated our kitchen, hallway and living room. Last year during lockdown we used our savings and remodeled our condo. All the hard work we put into doing the remodel has been lost. Jason and I own Alpine Valley Fireplace, a gas fireplace sales and service company, and we currently run our business from our living room. We started our business in January 2020 and were thankfully able to survive through COVID. In May we were able to hire our first, full-time employee and had started exploring moving our operations to a showroom in Avon. Being displaced from our home is impacting our ability to keep pace with our business and repairing the damage is as urgent for our livelihood as it is for our living situation. Our homeowner’s insurance specifically excludes mudslides and so our claim was denied. Our HOA’s insurance policy also does not cover mudslides and so our whole complex is going to struggle with the cost of clean-up on the property. The cost of cleaning out the mud and assessing the damage in just our condo alone is going to be between $5,000 - $10,000 plus we will have to replace our floor and do water mitigation work on our drywall and framing. We are so grateful for any donations which will help us repair our home/office and get back on our feet. Any funds we raise in excess of what it will take to repair our condo we will give to our neighbors, who were also affected by this disaster and denied by their insurance companies.
