Michelle Resendes lives in North Attleborough, Massachusetts with her husband Kurt and her four children, Daniel, Alyssa, Brody and Samantha. Michelle was diagnosed with breast cancer this May after months of testing. She first felt a lump last November, had a mammogram and was told she had “dense breast tissue”. She asked for an MRI and was told by a radiologist that she did not need the MRI. The lump got bigger and in March she told her doctor, who ordered the MRI. After months of tests she was finally diagnosed. The plan of treatment for Michelle is chemotherapy before surgery, which she is going through now, she will have a mastectomy in November. After the surgery it will be determined if she needs radiation therapy or not. Then she will have reconstructive surgery later in 2021.
For all who know Michelle, we all know she is a devoted wife and mother of four beautiful children. Michelle is also an incredible nurse, she has worked at Norwood Hospital for 25 years, the last 12 years full-time night shift on the Maternity ward. She is a thoughtful and loyal friend to many, funny, smart and caring. While Michelle was preparing for chemotherapy, having not one, but two ports placed (the first one did not work), the unimaginable happened. A freak storm hit Norwood, Massachusetts on June 28 th and the hospital has closed for an undetermined amount of time, maybe forever.
As if the stress of having breast cancer is not enough, the uncertainty of no longer having her job is adding insult to injury. After talking to Michelle’s close friend Karen, we decided to start this gofundme page with the hope that we can raise enough money to ease the financial burden of being not only sick, but now unemployed. We want Michelle to be able to focus on getting better and recovering, not on medical bills and other expenses that go along with being sick. Michelle also carries the health insurance for the family, which will run out on 1/1/2021.
