#muchlove Valentine Dance
Thank you for joining us in supporting the Lucy Ellis foundation.
Why this charity?
Most of you know that in January this year I was very sick. I contracted the flu, then pneumonia and then Sepsis, which attacks all your vital organs. Thanks to the quick thinking and expertise of the staff at Southmead ICU a miracle machine called ECMO was transported to Bristol from the Royal Brompton Hospital in Chelsea. This saved my life by doing the job of my respiratory system for 3 weeks while the experts tried to contain the virus.
Later in the year a young girl from Newport presented with similar symptoms , later diagnosed as Sepsis , and also needed the ECMO machine. Sadly it did not reach her from Chelsea in time (there are only 4 or 5 in the UK) , and her parents lost their 16 year old daughter.
They have since set up the Lucy Ellis foundation to raise funds for ECMO capability in this part of the country, and increased awareness of sepsis.
This felt like a relevant charity for us to support to give thanks that I was one of the lucky ones. We really hope you can join us , or maybe donate , if you cannot come to the dance. #muchlove is the hashtag they are using on the website , hence the name of our event !
Looking forward to hearing from you :)
