Help Marisol Fight IMCD!

SUMMARY: Our sweet sister, wife, mama to 2 boys, daughter and friend was diagnosed with a life-threatening, rare disease called Idiopathic Multicentric Castleman disease (iMCD) in March of this year which she has been silently battling. She has been treated with various immunotherapy and chemotherapy drugs with none being effective this far. We can’t accept this and will not give up on our sister, daughter, wife, daughter and friend, who we love deeply. This is especially hard as we just lost our dad on September 23, 2023 after his long battle with a leg and lung infection. We appreciate your support.

BACKGROUND: Marisol (Mari) was diagnosed after several long weeks of testing in the hospital, including a week spent in the ICU. This disease is progressive and affects multiple groups of lymph nodes. The symptoms can mimic cancerous, autoimmune, and infectious disorders, which made it difficult for doctors to diagnose her accurately.

In Mari’s case, she has multiple tumours throughout her body, impacting her major organs, including her heart and lungs. This has significantly affected her ability to move and breathe and has contributed to extreme weight loss. This condition has kept Mari from being able to care for her 2 boys, who she adores, 18 months and five years old!

Adding to further complications, Marisol has an additional disorder secondary to Castleman’s - Paraneoplastic Pemphigus. Marisol has a collapsed lung, and her other lung is operating at less than 17 percent capacity, which means Marisol requires constant oxygen therapy and the use of a bi-pap. Marisol has also battled several infections and has been in and out of the hospital because her immune system is severely compromised.

Doctors have told us that surgery is not an option due to Marisol’s complications, and they have exhausted all other options, including chemotherapy.

We are now shifting our focus to seeking medical attention in the USA, where we have identified other potential options which will be costly.
