Lauren's Neuroscience Scholarship

Donation protected
Five years ago this May 2015 my grandmother passed away from complications of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). This is a disease in which your own immune system attacks your central nervous system. Over time this causes you to lose control of your everyday functions like decision-making, eyesight, and movement. At some point in time the disease will fight harder than you do, and will take over your body completely; leaving you as just a host to the disease.

Ever since then I've had a great interest in neurology and neurosciences. I wish to research, diagnose, and help those with neurological diseases when I’m older. The National Student Leadership Conference has invited me to join them in the summer to represent Glenelg High School and study at American University along side doctors and other professionals. I would be studying in the field of Psychology and Neuroscience. The NSLC has presented an incredible opportunity for me to explore the field in which I want to join.

This program is a 10 day trip to Washington D.C. on the campus of American University where I will have the opportunity to part take in labs, research, and simulations as if I were in the real field.

I believe this will be a life changing experience for me and I would be immensely grateful if I had the chance to engage in a program such as this one.  In order to participate, I need to raise the tuition and costs for room and board for the program.  Thank you in advance for anything you can help with to help me acheive this dream...for myself, and in my grandma's memory and honor.

Love,
Lauren
