My wonderful mother, Bernadette, was one of the many who lost everything in the Camp Fire in Paradise last week. She nearly didn't make it out during the evacuation, but was able to safely escape with a few belongings and her cat. This year has already been extremely difficult for Bernadette, as her long-term partner, Mark, quickly succumbed to cancer over the summer. She had only been living in her apartment for a couple months and was just beginning to get settled in. Unfortunately, she did not have renter's insurance. My mother is one of the most selfless and supportive persons I've ever met, and I know others not borne of her loins would also agree with that statement. She is the type to drop whatever she is doing to lend support to those in need. I'm sure one of the most devastating things for Bernadette regarding losing all of her possessions is that she is not currently able to bake pies to give to others who are suffering as well. Thankfully, my mother's job is still intact, but any donation you can make to help her begin again would be most appreciated. She may even try to return the kindness with baked goods!
