WHO WE ARE
Since our humble beginnings in 1868 in a shack on the east side of Jacksonville, Florida, our congregation at Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church, the third oldest church in the area, has uplifted the voices and spirit of all God’s children through our unwavering and unbreakable faith, while living by our motto of “God our Father, Christ our Redeemer, the Holy Spirit our Comforter, Humankind our Family.”

Through hard work, prayer, and the support of our members and community, we were blessed to have the building you see before you designed by the first African-American architect in Jacksonville, Mr. Richard Lewis Brown, in September of 1921.

Though this building is rich in history, with its original stained glass windows and distinction of being the home church of Mr. Abraham Lincoln Lewis, the founder of the Afro-American Life Insurance Company,

our richest history and deepest tradition is rooted in fulfilling our commitment to seek out and save the lost, and to serve the needy as we minister to the spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional, and environmental needs of all people by spreading Christ's liberating gospel through word and deed.
OUR PRAYERFUL REQUEST
As we near our 150th anniversary of serving the community, our beloved sanctuary has fallen into disrepair due to declining membership and storm damage throughout the years. Severe weather and general wear-and-tear over time has caused water leakage and termite damage along our roofline, which has rendered some corners of the church unusable.

And sadly, some wayward souls have shattered our front sign, several windows, and one of our beautiful stained glass windows... in fact, it was the lovely window of one of our founders, A. L. Lewis, you saw above.

Though our spirit is intact, our edifice is not, and we are asking for your help in salvaging our spiritual home so that our ministry may continue serving Him for another 150 years.

Rest assured that our hands are busy doing the Lord's work, as we have multiple pledges, projects and activities underway to help restore the building, but we need your help to complete the journey!
We kindly and humbly ask for your help with tax-deductible monetary donations and/or donations in kind of materials or professional workmanship to help us restore the building. No amount is too small to build up the Lord, so whatever God lays upon your heart, please know that we thank you in advance for your kindness. The gifts you donate will go to the church's building fund to be used towards:
* fumigating the building
* replacing the walls damaged by pests and water
* replacing broken signage and windows
* repairing the roof
It's a big task, but all things are possible through Jesus Christ, our Lord!
Our hearts and our doors are still open, and we welcome you to fellowship with us in person at 841 Franklin Street in Jacksonville, Florida or visit us online at our Mount Olive AME Jacksonville Facebook Page.
God bless you!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR OF THIS GOFUNDME PAGE:
We are the Anderson family and the church you see above you is the church ouf family grew up in throughout our formative years. Through four generations, we can't remember a time when this church wasn't busy about the business of donating to the needy, feeding the hungry, uplifting children and the community, and ministering to those both inside and outside its doors. Though some of us have spread our wings into Georgia, Pennsylvania and as far away as California, it pains us terribly to see the damage and know that each Sunday when our mother/grandmother walks through the doors there is a chance that it won't be open for her to do so in the coming months if we don't get it fixed soon. On behalf of our hometown church, we ask for your generosity to restore the spiritual home of the people that we love there so dearly.
