When Meghan was pregnant with her and Brandon’s second little girl, she found out she had Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma that originated in a salivary gland at the base of her tongue. She delivered early in order to begin chemotherapy and radiation.
Two years after that first battle with cancer, Meghan has now found out that it is back. On November 5th she had a surgery to remove 25-30 lymph nodes in her neck and another biopsy done on a spot on the base of her tongue. While they operated they ended up also having to remove a nerve connected to her eye, one to her mouth, and one to her vocal cord, her jugular vein, and a lymph node so close to her carotid artery that they had to take some of her pectoral muscle and put it in her neck to cover it back up, adding another surgical wound, more time to her surgery, and a longer hospital stay, and she will have to return back to the hospital a few days after discharge and get an injection to repair damage to her vocal cords. The doctor said it was a hard surgery and this is an aggressive cancer, so unfortunately after she has 4-6 weeks to recover, she will have to begin another round of radiation 5 days a week for 4-6 weeks with the potential for chemotherapy included, if the board of doctors feels it’s worth it to try because her type of tumor is not one that responds to chemotherapy well. Even after all of this is said and done she will have to continue having maintenance injections to repair damage to her vocal cords, but the doctors are hopeful though, and we are too.
All of that being said, recovering from surgery, being a wife and mom, and the upcoming treatment is a lot for anyone to deal with. The money donated will go towards uncovered medical bills and anything needed along the way to help in easing the financial stress that unfortunately comes with the fight Meghan is going through.
