Meet Maya, a brave little survivor from the streets of Bulgaria whose journey has been anything but easy.

Born in the summer of 2022, Maya came into the world like so many street kittens — unseen, unheard, and vulnerable. But fate gave her one small mercy: she was born in a neighborhood watched over by a kind-hearted man who fed and protected the local strays. When Maya became seriously ill from a wound likely caused by a dog attack, he did the only thing he could — he brought her to a vet clinic and left her there, knowing he couldn't afford to help further.

Maya was just a few months old when she was attacked — a tiny kitten facing the harsh Bulgarian winter with a severe, infected facial injury. For a while, no one knew if she would make it. But she fought hard. Thanks to weeks of care at the clinic and the love of her new foster parent, Maya not only survived — she blossomed.

Now healed and full of life, Maya still bears a facial scar. It’s a reminder of where she’s been, but it doesn’t hold her back. She eats, grooms, plays, and cuddles like any other cat. She’s gentle, a little shy at first, but once she warms up — she’s a burst of charm and playfulness, especially around other cats.

And now, Maya has a chance at something extraordinary — a forever home in San Francisco, California.
