Early on the morning of Wednesday February 18th, Barb began experiencing symptoms of a stroke including loss of feeling and function in her left side. She was rushed by ambulance to Oakwood hospital. After undergoing numerous tests including a CT Scan, it was confirmed that a blood clot had caused an Ischemic stroke. Medicine was administered to help break up the clot. She has regained her speech, but physical movement is still restricted. She is currently undergoing many tests to help determine the exact location, and severity of the stroke. It is unknown the extent of the damage the stroke has caused, or how long it will take for her to fully recover. Doctors have suggested that entering into a rehabilitation facility would help to give her the best chance at recovery.
Barb was approved for Charity through the hospital, which covers 70% of her total bill, leaving Barb and Ken responsible for the remaining 30%. As of this afternoon, her hospital bills have reached $38,000 and are still climbing. It appears as though it will be days before she is transferred from Oakwood to a rehabilitation facility to begin therapy. Doctors are estimating that she will need two to three weeks of therapy.
We are asking for donations to help cover the medical costs and therapy. Barb will need to take time off of work to recover and the financial burden will be high.
Barb and Ken are two of the most helpful people around. They continually go above and beyond to assist anyone in need. They have provided for their four children, their spouses and ten grandchildren. Their grandchildren think that they are the best! These kids and grandchildren need their Mawgee to get better!
