Zach's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
Last week Zach and Ashleigh, along with their 2 boys (Jude [2] and Barrett [4 mos]) went to visit family in south Florida. On Saturday morning, Zach woke up with blurry/double vision and could not walk unassisted. He was admitted to Jupiter Medical Center where doctors were perplexed as to what was going on. He underwent extensive workups, including several MRIs and a spinal tap, all of which came back normal. His symptoms progressively got worse and the doctors have "unofficially" diagnosed him with Miller Fisher Syndrome. MFS is a rare, acquired nerve disease that is considered to be a variant of Guillain-Barré syndrome. It is characterized by abnormal muscle coordination, paralysis of the eye muscles, and absence of the tendon reflexes. He has begun treatment, but this will be a long road to full recovery. More than likely, he will remain admitted to the hospital for at least a week, possibly longer.
At this point in time, Ashleigh (and the boys) remain in Jupiter to be by Zach's side. As you can imagine, being away from home with a 2-year-old and 4 month old has not made this any easier. The road to recovery is unknown at this time, so they will be staying in Jupiter for as long as necessary. When they do make it back to Tallahassee, Zach will more than likely require extensive physical therapy and occupational therapy before he is back to his baseline and able to return to work.
Any little bit you are able to donate will help this family out tremendously, as this is only the beginning of the challenges they will face moving forward! If you are unable to contribute financially, Zach and Ashleigh ask that you please pray for a quick and uncomplicated recovery.
