My son Gary (15) went to Metlakatla Alaska for a summer trip in mid august to meet his dad's side of the family for the first time , while visiting there he had a terrible diving accident and almost lost his life . He slipped off of a 25 foot cell tower while diving into the water , his fall was broken by the dock holding the tower , he then was submerged and unconscious in the water until pulled out by other kids that were there (thankfully). He was taken by medi-vac boat to Ketchikan Ak. which is the closest hospital and the decision was made to air lift him by a guardian one jet to Seattle to harbor view medical center for the best trauma care . I impatiently waited in Seattle for them to arrive to learn the extent of his injuries . Gary was admitted to ICU , his injuries consisted of a dislocated left wrist, a broken left arm which required emergency surgery that day, a fractured lower Mandela (jaw) which required surgery to put a metal plate into his chin and also wire his lower jaw to stabilize it , lots of bumps and bruises from falling , water in his lungs, a bruised kidney and he lost a total of 6 permanent teeth (5 top front 1 bottom) . We're hoping to just raise funds for him to get his teeth replaced because our insurance unfortunately won't cover these costs . We are looking into getting him permanent implants and false teeth . Hopefully you could find it in your heart to help us achieve this goal for Gary . He is not starting school this fall due to the accident , he's self concious about the missing teeth (which is so understandable) and doesn't want to return until the procedure is completed.
