No running water for over five weeks! Sometimes one anticipates the unexpected until the unexpected happens. Then one is never prepared financially . Or at least I am not. One evening, without warning, I was sitting in my older adobe home with my three standard poodles when suddenly the lights went out. I instantly thought, did I pay the bill? I called the local electric
company and discovered that a vehicle had crashed into the local utility pole in my village of 6000 people. When the electric came back on a few hours later I was relieved. But, when I went to turn on the kitchen Fossett there was no water. As I am A city boy from Nashville Tennessee this was a new experience for me. I really didn't know where to begin to discover the problem. I checked all of the fuses and electrical that I knew about to no avail. I called a local plumber who checked the electrical and said it was probably the well pump. I made an appointment with them bad as usual, hair, I have been stood up two times with no explanation or a courtesy call. To make a long story short this has occurred with several companies here. I really don't understand it. Finally I mentioned it to a friend/neighbor who has been trying to help me resolve this situation that has been going on for five weeks and two days. I found out yesterday that it might be $3000 to repair the well.. After I pick myself up off the floor I became physically ill from the thought. And, as my entire family has been deceased for over a decade, I had no one to turn to in my time of need. Me and the three standard poodles have been existing with bottled water we bring from town and really living a pioneer life out here in the west. All I can say is, thank goodness I live and I forest with trees and no neighbors. I heat up water on the stove to shave and do sponge baths. My diet has changed drastically from my southern cooking to recipes that require no water. But, enough is enough. I have to have running water for insurance purposes and if I ever resell or even have out-of-town guests. And, I really need to water my plants as we live and an extremely dry climate. My dear friend Kathy in Franklin Tennessee has made a considerable contribution but it sounds like it is going to cost a considerable amount more. The poodles and I would greatly appreciate your consideration and any amount you can contribute to our dire situation. Thank you in advance and as soon as the water is running again you all are welcome to visit us at Poodle Springs , New Mexico. The standard fee for just pulling the pump out to check it it's $500. Then, the cost go up from there depending on the type of pump it requires. Luckily, my well is not very deep, only about 60 feet I think? Some people in my village have wells that are hundreds of feet deep. And, it is easily accessible by my front gate.
