Melissa S King Memorial Fund

Donation protected
The Melissa S. King Memorial Fund is being set up to provide scholarship funds to children who want to attend Summer Art Camp in the Midwest as well as at the Camp where Missy was the Department Head of Arts & Crafts -- Camp Vega, Fayette, Maine.   Consideration is also being given to  scholarship opportunities through the Toledo Museum of Art and Bowling Green State University's 3D Bachelor of Fine Arts program.

Missy was an avid artist.  She started young with a toy potters wheel and Sculpy clay.  Missy attended Bowling Green State University and majored in their 3D Art Program, specializing in ceramics.  She explored all art genres:  drawing, sculpting, painting,  glass blowing and photography.  She excelled at ceramics and thoroughly enjoyed photography.  Missy was active in glass blowing and ceramics programs offered through the Toledo Museum of Art.

Traveling to Australia in early 2014, Missy became a member of a  Perth potters' association and taught a class on teapot construction.   Her work at Camp Vega included creating the curriculum for the arts and craft program for girls aged 7 - 14.  She taught at Camp Vega as well as supervising a staff of arts and crafts instructors.  Missy's art was recently for sale at Desdemona's art gallery in Marblehead, Ohio.

Missy's next career step  was to acquire a residency in an international art program at any one of a number of ceramics residency programs she had identified.  This plan would have allowed her to continue her love of travel while refinig her technique and gaining valuable knowledge from world ceramics experts.

Missy passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2014.  She was 27 years old.  She began to feel ill in November and was diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer in early December.  The cancer was uncharacteristically aggressive and took her life  before she could even begin treatment.

This GoFundMe account is being set up to receive donations from friends and family related to her memorial service.  Missy had friends all over the world and this is one way that we can all work together to carry on Missy's legacy.  This fund will be transformed into a formal 501c3 charity in the near future.  A website will also be developed where all donators will be able to see to whom and where the funds are distributed.

Friends and family will be planning regular and annual fund-raising events in an effort to keep Missy's love of art alive and is an excellent way to honor her memory and keep her love and zest for life alive.

If you choose to donate; thank you.
