My name is Paula and I bring to you Kayla Hodge. This has pressed heavily on my heart. Many of you know her. She is a precious, hardworking, generous young lady. She is a single mom of 4 year old Avah and she owns her own home. She would never ask for help, but she greatly deserves it! We never know from day to day how a simple thing can become a tragedy. She simply stepped off her deck wrong, fell, and broke every bone in her foot and two in her leg. They were not able to complete surgery in the beginning because of all the swelling. They had to put an external fixator in. During that time she was on baby aspirin twice a day. On Sunday Sept 7th she woke up to go to the bathroom and she was nauseous and sweating. She passed out! Home alone with a 4 year old. Somehow a button was pushed on her phone that called her uncle. When he couldn’t get her to respond he called her Mother (Cindy Hodge). Cindy and Kayla are both nurses. When Cindy got there her lips were purple, she was clammy and Cindy could barely get a pulse. She called 911 and when taken to ER they discovered her lungs were full of blood clots and one in each leg. Her enzymes were unbelievably high and it was affecting her heart at an alarming rate. They had to do an emergency heart cath procedure, and were able to remove all the big clots in her lungs. She was put on heparin for the clots in the legs. They won’t know the exact extent of any permanent heart damage for 6 months. She is very lucky to be alive! All of our prayers were answered.
Her surgery was scheduled for Thursday September 11. Now in this fragile state, could it be done? The fixator desperately needed to come out. You aren’t suppose to leave it in more than a few weeks. Could they put her to sleep? Could she withstand the surgery? After much deliberation between the surgeon and cardiologist they decided to move forward with surgery, but not under general anesthesia. Our prayers were answered again and Kayla made it through the surgery! She has a very long road to recovery. She will probably be non-weight bearing for the rest of the year. She has insurance, but with all the surgeries etc she has met her out of pocket maximum which is either $8000 or $10,000. January is right around the corner and it will start over. Times are tough now for everyone, and if you can’t give then please pray for Kayla and her daughter! Pray for healing in her foot and leg. Pray that her heart will be ok, and pray she can get back to work as soon as possible. She is probably looking at 6 months. If you prefer to be apart of the meal train then just message or contact Cindy. Anything and everything is appreciated!
Please feel free to share this so that as many people as possible will see it! If you would rather do something outside of this platform you can mail it to Kayla or give it to me or Cindy and we will make sure she gets it!
Thank you so much, and keep praying!
