*UPDATE* 09/17/2023 - Janus is back home!! We have been busy making sure he is taken care and comfortable. We will update the goal with the latest total soon. Thank you all for your support!
*UPDATE* 09/11/2023 - Sadly Janus officially needs Perineal Urethrostomy Surgery. My wife and I will keep updating this page as we get more information.
Janus is a feisty, three-year-old kitten with the heart of a wolf. He will always let you know when he's around and demand pets whenever possible. His hunting instincts are unmatched and he constantly dreams of someday catching the deer and squirrels that roam our back yard (birds beware).
He will constantly remind you that he is allowing you to live with him, not the other way around. This sassy, fluffy, cuddly boy invented the side eye.
Unfortunately, Janus is going through his second Urinary Catheterization due to a urinary blockage. Janus lives with cystitis and we do everything possible to ensure he has the enrichment he needs at home to live a long and healthy life. Despite preparing as best we can, this second emergency has presented a significant financial challenge. His first visit to the ER resulted in him having his first cystitis diagnosis on Jun 28th. During his second flare up on July 1st, his vet recommended he stay on his Gabapentin medication daily to keep his anxiety levels at bay and prevent further flareups. Even though we were confused as to why he continued to get sick, we did our best to add more play time, new toys, a second water fountain and plenty of wet food to add to his new care. Everything seemed to be working until he had to be taken to the ER on Aug 26th due to him constantly straining in his litter box, he was becoming lethargic and had a very full bladder. This was the first time Janus had to undergo a Urinary Catheterization and was hospitalized for three days. This visit was $2,210.35. We switched his litter to pine pellets and started to mix more water in his meals hoping this would help improve his care. He was recovering well until we noticed blood in and around his litter box on Sept. 9th. We immediately rushed to the ER once again only this time, his regular hospital did not have availability. We were advised to take him to the second nearest hospital where we were told he once again, had a Urinary Blockage. This time, the hospitalization is estimated to be $3,500 and so far we have made a deposit of $2,600.
We know these are very difficult times for everyone but if you can, we will appreciate any help offered. Please help us spread the word by sharing this link on your social media channels to boost our efforts in continuing to provide Janus the help he needs.
Thank you
