For the last several months my son, Anthony Kumher, has been struggling with severe upper respiratory issues. On May 4th, he was admitted into Loma Linda Children’s Hospital in the hopes that the team of doctors there would be able to find a diagnosis. We were there for eleven days. During this hospital stay, the doctors performed four bronchoscopies and multiple blood test, and a cat scan that lead to the discovery of what it was that was impeding his ability to breathe, and also causing him cough up blood.
Every mother’s worst fear, a carcinoid Tumor, a rare type of lung cancer. The doctor explained that the procedure needed, to remove the tumor, would be incredibly difficult. The decision was made to transfer him to a more experienced surgeon at University of California Los Angeles Medical Center (Children’s Hospital), where his diagnosis was confirmed, and he will undergo surgery.
During this time, I have found myself in financial duress due to the severity of the condition, and the difficulty of traveling back and forth to and from the medical center.
Anthony is 17 years old, he has dreams of going to college, and is an excellent student and is also a great big brother. He volunteers at a local Martial Arts Dojo, works on lighting for the TPHS theater. He loves robotics, and is in Avid, he is always the first to provide help for anyone who could ever need it. He is an inspiration to those around him in the way that he loves, in the way that he is joyful despite everything he is going through, and in the way that he cares for people relentlessly.
I am asking for help because I need it. Anthony’s hospital stay, his surgical cost, the hotel stays, the repeated three hour commute from UCLA, his recovery cost, and medications are all something that I find myself in need of financial help for. If you could find it in your heart to help provide some level of assistance for me and my family, I would greatly appreciate it
