If you’ve ever met Ms. Wendy, you know she is pure light. Her smile warms a room, her laughter is contagious, and her kindness has touched so many lives. She is a gentle, joyful soul who gives freely of her spirit.

But in just one heartbreaking moment, everything changed. While riding a pasola, Wendy was the victim of a senseless robbery. The straps of her bag were caught on the bike, and when the thieves tried to snatch it, they dragged her down the street. What should have been an ordinary day turned into a devastating tragedy.

Wendy was rushed into emergency surgery after suffering severe injuries. Three of her toes were cut off and had to be surgically replaced. A fourth could not be saved. The rest of her toes are broken, along with her ankle and other bones. She is now facing an incredibly long, painful road to recovery.

To make matters worse, Wendy has no health insurance here in the Dominican Republic. Every surgery, every treatment, every step of her healing journey will come at an overwhelming cost—far more than she can bear alone.

Update: Surgery went well. Rhey are attempting to salvage 3 toes. One will not be able to be saved and had to be removed. They realized that though all the toes on one foot were either missing or broken, the other foot is only bruised. Her ankles are also bruised but not broken. The police have camera footage and are looking for the suspects. We will keep all updated here.
