This is my 13th year teaching and my first GoFundMe. Last year, I got my absolute dream job teaching Mandarin Chinese at a public high school in Portland, Oregon. It costs a lot of money to set up a classroom and everything I've spent for the past two years is still on my credit card. I have a detailed spreadsheet breakdown of where the money has gone, but it's essentially for supplies, materials, subscriptions, and other things I've bought to make my classroom welcoming, fun, and awesome. It doesn't include any of the food or snacks I've provided my students or Chinese Club members. I've never spent less than $800 in a year for my classroom, and establishing a new class often costs double that, and more last year because we hadn't adopted textbooks yet and I had to make/buy all my materials. So I'm hoping people will think it's cool that American high school students are learning Mandarin and help give them all the modern tools they need to learn it as efficiently and enjoyably as possible. Thank you all in advance!
