SUNSHINE IS IN HER NEW HOME!!!
AFTER A YEAR OF RAISING AWARENESS AND FUNDS PHASE ONE OF A TRUE COMMUNITY PROJECT HAS BEEN REALIZED..THANK YOU BOMBAY!
We still have a bit more to do to make the lot sustainable through the einds and heat of the summer and beyond. We need funds for some supplies to replace the fence around her property that was in disrepair already when it had to be removed to replace her trailer..and also the shade structure that is truly necessary to lessen the effects of Bombay summer heat and winds..our usual core volunteers are providing their building talents but we do need to purchase materials which could cost up to 2 k...the go fund me reserve had been exhausted by her new electrical hook up and plumbing supplies ..both tasks we I stalled at free or very low cost labor..but supplies alone were appx 700 ..anything you can contribute in this final push will go along way to sustaining her new place..and we can bring her dogs back home..they have been cared for by her friend and she has never been away from.yhem this long..she lives for the dogs ..but they need a fence ..love to all this is a miracle..
WHO IS WRITING THIS AND WHAT IS THEIR ROLE IN THE FUNDRAISER
My name is Brenda Kenneally. I am working with a small team of neighbors from Bombay Beach to shepherd the efficiency of this larger community project. I am a documentary photographer. Sunshine and her support dog Little Lady were the first residents I met in 2018 when I began to make Bombay Beach my home. Enchanted by Ms. Sunshine, I joined a growing number of working artists who love this unique place and want to honor and preserve its character and historic significance while using artistic energy as a way to make functional contributions in our community. Sunshine is a local treasure who personifies Bombay and she is an important cultural stakeholder in our “census designated area” that is bound by an ethos of communal care. We have a plan and a community of willing backs and hands to do the necessary preparation and installation. We need to raise 35,000 to purchase and transport a new safe and secure energy efficient container home to Sunshine’s lot in Bombay. Our Bombay Beach Community is committed to labors of love that include clearing Sunshine’s lot of the existing hazardous structure, hauling away debris and installing the new unit that will likely extend Sunshine’s life and create a prototype for a plan of community engagement to repair or replace some of the aged and unsafe dwellings in Bombay Beach. Our 35,000 goal includes the turn key dwelling and cost of delivery to this remote area. Sadly Sunshine’s is the reality for so many seniors across the country, blessedly here in Bombay we take care of our own..
